Three Ways To Maximise Your Time on LinkedIn

There are so many social media platforms today, you would be forgiven if you thought all that you can possibly do there is to tell your immediate circle of influence what you are doing, and how.

But they can do more. Social media platforms not only put the world at your fingertips, they can help amplify the value you can add through your projects and work. This is even more so for LinkedIn.

Dear Woman in Media, do you have a LinkedIn account? How well have you used it to further your personal objectives? With over 500 million users, LinkedIn is one platform that should not be overlooked in your personal branding and content distribution strategy.

Here are three tips for you to get the best on that platform:

  1. Engage: They say that content is king – and you have probably mastered the art of writing for social. But some people know that engagement is QUEEN! Writing content is like reading a news bulletin on TV – there is no room for audience feedback. When you engage other people’s content, you give them a chance to see beyond your carefully constructed sentences when you write.
  2. Connect: Be strategic in sending invitations to connect on LinkedIn. This platform provides details about its users – where they work and what they do. So, who do you want to speak with? Send an invitation to connect! Who do you aspire to be like, professionally? Send an invitation to connect! Networking has been democratized; don’t wait for a face-to-face before you reach out for a handshake.
  3. Get recommendations: One of the most powerful sections on your LinkedIn profile is the recommendations section. Testimonials from clients and colleagues are important when people need to decide if they want to work with you or recommend your work. Identify people who can give glowing recommendations of your work, and get them to drop a comment on your page.

These tips, coupled with an aesthetically appealing page that communicates the value that you can deliver, will position you as an expert in your field and open doors that were impenetrable before now.
