VACANCY: Media and Communications Officer

As we move close to the fourth conference scheduled for July 29-31 in South Africa (here’s the concept of AWiM 2020 [PDF] )we are delighted at the realization that the AWiM family is growing. Therefore, we invite applications for a qualified person for a full-time role of a Media and Communications Officer!

The officer, who will be part of our family and begin work in March 1, is responsible for all of AWiM and Summit’s media output and needs which includes, but not limited to, general branding, promotional activities and communication(s) of the organizations and the conference, both internally (i.e. within the team) and externally. S/he will report to the founder and work closely with the other team members of AWiM to ensure the successful execution of the aforementioned tasks.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Branding and advertising

  • Develop a communication strategy that will be shared with the founder
  • Organize the design, printing and circulation of promotional materials (i.e. sponsorship brochures, fliers, banners etc.) in accordance with agreed-upon branding regulations.
  • In collaboration with the founders, write and collate content for the summit brochure/magazine
  • In collaboration with the founders, contribute to the preparation of accessories for the summit (i.e. branded goodie bags, pens, notebooks etc.)

Media liaisons

  • In collaboration with the founders, contribute to the effort of securing media partners to promote and cover the organization and the summits.
  • Send out press releases to journalists, on newsworthy details about AWiM and the summit.

Digital Media

  • Organize the re-design and collation of content for the Summit website, based on the annual themes
  • Ensure the website is maintained and regularly updated with relevant information
  • Develop a social media strategy alongside the founders and oversee the running of the summit’s social media accounts

Team communication and Internal Affairs

  • With the founder’s counsel, develop a budget for media-related activities
  • Manage and delegate tasks to members of the media team members

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • A creative and analytical thinker who has some experience in developing and executing media relations and communication strategies
  • An excellent communicator, able to develop ideas, messages and stories to promote the summit theme, write and edit content for the summit, and the confidence to engage media partners and journalists
  • Knowledge of website and digital platforms is essential
  • Strong organization and time management skills, to balance summit duties and communication with the founder and
  • Resilience to perform under pressure and deliver results
  • A keen eye for detail
  • Knowledge of mainstream media desirable but not essential
  • Strong player who can delegate tasks in an efficient manner when need to, paying close attention to teammates’ strengths.

We would like to stress that this is a demanding role and the media officer should be committed and dedicated to the organization, the summit and the workload attached to this role. The media officer must also be willing and able to travel within a week’s notice.  The Officer will share weekly log plans of work done and update the founders of the progress with the same.
