“Friends said I have bad luck”: Women Living with Disabilities Tell Stories of Discrimination

Ableism or the discrimination against people with disabilities, is still a major problem in a nation where social attitudes and infrastructure have not yet fully embraced inclusivity. Despite the National Policy on Disability in Nigeria 2017 and the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act of 2018, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability and imposes sanctions such as fines and prison sentences on those who violate it, people living with disabilities face varying levels of ableism across the country.

In this Esther Onyegbula exposes  how ableism affects persons living with disabilities and ways to curb the trend.
