Esther Armah, Director of EAA Media Productions was one of the Panelists on the ‘#MeToo in Africa: Global Solutions for Sexual Harassment’ panel at AWiM19 in Nairobi. Her panel featured Kenyan journalist Rachel Ombaka.
Inspired by Rachel’s presentation that highlighted four specific sexual harassment actions that occur within Kenya’s media houses, Esther connected with Rachel after AWiM19, to collaborate for #16DaysOfActivism. EAA Media Productions also reached out to AWiM19 Keynote Speaker Biola Alabi to join this collaboration.
#TimesUpAfriMedia was developed, a social media campaign calling out sexual harassment in Africa’s media houses. Created by EAA Media Productions with Rachel Ombaka, and in partnership with AWiM, Media Council of Kenya, Association of Media Women in Kenya (AMWIK), Biola Alabi Media, and the Tanzania PR and Media Women’s Group, it is a powerful example of AWiM’s vision, matched with the power of partnership by participants and panellists.
EAA Media Production’s AWiM19 presentation on #TimesUpGH – a campaign to fight sexual violence in Ghana’s schools, has now developed into a ground-breaking national survey and project to push for the standardised structure in reporting and investigating allegations of sexual abuse in schools.
‘SCHOOLS, SEX, and SAFETY’ is a 3-part national project creating a teen-centred survey, a multi-media campaign and a media summit regarding treatment of teen cases of sexual abuse in Ghana’s media. The groundbreaking project is led by EAA Media Productions in partnership with UNFPA, The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Mobile Web Ghana, The Safe Space Foundation and the Coalition Against Sexual Abuse (CASA).
