Media’s role in giving women voice to overcome political hurdles

On 9 August 2022, Kenyans headed to the polls to elect the country’s president. In addition to the executive, Kenyans also elected 290 Members of Parliament, 47 governors, 47 senators, 47 women representatives and 1,450 members of county assemblies in the elections. This was the second general election since the 2010 Constitution was promulgated. In today’s special feature, Harriet Atyang looks at the challenges faced by women in politics, and the role the media plays during campaigns. She also explores the political space in Kenya and how conducive it is for female politicians.
