The Wounded Wombs: Harrowing Stories Of Women Living With VVF

Early marriage is a major factor that leads to adolescent pregnancy, which carries serious health risks and often leads to gender-based violence (GBV) against the survivor. One of the health risks associated with early marriage is Vesico-Vaginal Fistula (VVF), an abnormal opening between the bladder and the wall of the vagina. VVF can form after childbirth if the delivery is difficult, after certain kinds of surgery, or following radiotherapy. This report by Iyabode Olorunsola investigates the difficulty survivors face in getting fistula repair surgeries done in Birnin-Kebbi, Kebbi state, North-West Nigeria.
