About AWiMNews
AWiMNews is a specialised news platform dedicated to reporting African women-centred narratives and viewpoints on global matters, aspiring to become a leading authority in gender-focused journalism worldwide. The platform consists of three primary components:
- Open-access content comprising features and opinion editorials that emphasise the gender perspectives of current affairs, new research findings, policy developments, and other relevant subjects of interest.
- AWiM Member- Only content that delves into the experiences of African women within the media landscape, the depiction of African women’s issues in media coverage, and specialised series like the gender fact-checkers segment.
- Agency content providing in-depth investigative reports on gender-related topics for dissemination to various news outlets and media channels.
About the Role
As an Intern Copy Editor, your primary responsibility is to review and edit written content to ensure accuracy, clarity, and adherence to established style guidelines. This role involves correcting grammar, spelling, punctuation, and syntax errors and refining sentence structure and overall readability. You will also be involved in fact-checking, verifying sources, and collaborating with other writers to refine their work.
Job description
- The AWiMNews copy editor will be required to:
- Proofread AWiMNews content for errors and inconsistencies.
- Edit and polish existing content on AWiMNews to improve readability.
- Carry out research and verify the factual correctness of information, such as dates and statistics.
- Publish content on AWiMNews website.
- Document and update the AWiMNews style guide.
- The incumbent will be expected to fulfil other associated duties as required within the scope of the position.
Key Requirements and Qualification
- Excellent command of the English language, including grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- A degree in English language, mass communication or a related discipline.
- Proficiency in relevant software tools such as Microsoft Office Word and Excel.
- Communication skills with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Knowledge of women-related issues.
